I suppose the real trick is to get the entire world, except for the water, to hold still for an entire 25 seconds!
OK, you motivated me to buy the ND filter - I had been considering one for a while now!

Great timing! But as Beth says, it's a bit over exposed. However there seems to be detail in the highlights so you could probably save it just by darkening it down in an editing programme like Photoshop. Other than that it's pretty good. The focus on the nearer water is too soft, ideally it would have been better if at least some of the foreground (forewater?) was in focus but that's asking a lot with this kind of shot where you don't know exactly where the action is going to take place.

Thanks, Beth. I was given the opportunity to shoot our country's top ballerinas while they were practicing. I wasn't able to shoot. I was mesmerized, awed, and stunned when they flew, glided, moved, and danced. I just kept on applauding and forgot I had a camera by my side.

Not bad for a first attempt!!! Try straightening that horizon, first though. =) Love the clouds, btw!

They're right in that an object would help the composition. Since you don't have one though, try straightening the horizon. That will help a lot. As to the vibrant colors, that's not too hard Simply add contrast and boost the saturation in photoshop/gimp/picasa or whatever program you use. You'll be surprised at the difference.

If your monitor is calibrated properly you should see sixteen distinct tones from white to black.
