Kev/Derek - still trying to tackle macro! Taking on board all previous tips, this pic is entirely pure, shot as is, on a dull, rainy day. Any comments?

I think the yellow flower one is better, but they're an excellent start if these are your first macro shots though.

PS, you might want to check your composition on this one as there seems to be a big leaf in the way. ;-)

Thanks honez! However, I have to confess - these are not my first macro shots! Taking tips though from those in the know!

Hey, that's a Maple Leaf - you musta stolen one of our trees!!! Smile

Again - this is not a macro shot - merely a closeup.
A proper macro shot would be taken with a 1:1 ratio lens (like the Nikkor 105mm micro VR lens)...and one would be shooting a LOT closer, probably focusing the fine detail upon the veins of the leaf - for example.

The dull day conditions are perfect for this type of shot...with no harsh luminosity factors to contend with.

Needs more depth of field. OK f5.6 at 1/60 at 500 ISO was indeed a du-ull day. With practice it is possible to hold the camera still enough at 1/30th of a second or even longer, especially if you get comfortable. Failing that I would suggest you start lugging a tripod around with you. Either that or move to a country with more light. Smile
