It's always a bugger trying to prevent that when shooting directly into the sun...a hood will help somewhat, and I read that f/16 is the optimal aperture to minimalize it the most...but it's gonna be a challenge.

If your monitor is calibrated properly you should see sixteen distinct tones from white to black.
