I thought you might enjoy this one, I think it's quite fun. The kids at school are putting on a production of the Rocky Monster show, it's basically a kid's version of the Rocky Horror show. This was one of the shots I took during the poster shoot. It wasn't the one we used because it has no principal characters in it, but I thought it was the best shot as I like the way the smoke came out. Basically the setup was two studio flash heads, one at the front with a brolly and one behind the smoke machine shining back towards the camera. I had to be careful to keep the girls on front of the light otherwise it would have been way too strong. The background is part of the painted set.

Hi Geoff. I'm personally don't care for horror stuff - but if I did, this one would be at the top of the list Wink You did a good job with it!

Also, I am wondering how you did the fog look? It looks great the way you did it.

Love the lighting through the smoke Geoff and it certainly has that Rocky Spoof vibe about it. Possibly could do with a bit of a twist clockwise to straighten the bricks, and it's a shame the kid's hood is masking one of his eyes.
If you wanted to get the clone stamp out, you could whiteout the skin showing on both kids arms up their sleeves. Very minor quibbles though.
Nice and crisp and definitely has that pro studio vibe about it.

Well, I guess we have to be extra picky...just coz this is the Gaffer's image Smile
Actually, I do like it...and the one aspect that appeals to me the most...is the fact that the smoke, powdered faces and the gowns n gloves are all within the same (white) colour range...but they all do also stand apart and work as seperate elements within the frame. The balance between thsee different parts is just about right and that's why it works nicely.
I also agree with Honez here...the image is very crisp and clear which gives it that studio persona. Even on just this small web-pic, I can tell the difference in IQ with the new EOS 7D versus your previous Canon body. It just has better resolution.
There, that's enough praise for one day - ME thinks Smile

Thanks for the nice comments guys.

Beth, the smoke is not a Photoshop effect, it was really there, produced by the fog machine we have in our theatre. The only thing to remember with smoke is that you must have a light behind it shining through it, otherwise it can just look messy, like an image with not enough contrast.

Rich, I'll see what pictures I get when I shoot the stills of the show next week.

You know, I was thinking that it might be really there, but I kept going, "No way that could be real smoke!" I just never saw any like that before. Shows how wrong I was! LOL!
