Ok, here's the final shot of the Parrot Tulip. This time a full subject 56x Stack.
Actually, there's not a ton of difference between this one and the regular f/22 single shot image I posted previous.
Just a little more DOF and detail at the back of the frame.

When you say 56X stack, did that mean you took 56 shots at different aperture settings, erasing the blurry part, and stack them all together to complete one single photo?

One very trivial thing in the picture (and also in the first one that was posted earlier) that caught my eye. Its that little green thing on the tip of the petal, lower right part of the photo. I dont know, maybe it needs a bit of cloning???

Really nice. Kev, start to finish, how long does it take you to make an image like this?

Clem, probably about 3 hours from start to finish.
Sometimes less, it all depends upon how much cleanup there is to do...and which method I use for isolation masking, etc.

When you say a 'full subject 56x stack'. Is there a limit to the number of pictures you can stack? Or do you just find 56 is enough?

Hi Geoff,

When I say 'full subject' I just mean that I have covered the entire subject from back to front (DOF) in focus. All depending upon the size (ie: depth) of the object...distance-ratio, and f/stop used...will determine 'how many' shots are required to do that. One is only limited by the processing power of their computer. With a 32-bit machine approx 60 TIFF files is about all it can handle. With a 64-bit, quad core, 24 GB RAM setup....it will process 500 images comfortably. Some of the insect-macro guys stack over 300 files into one image.

On this particular photo, 56 was enough to cover the 7 cms depth at that distance shooting f/22.
