I think you needed to focus a little nearer on this one to cover the nearest petals.


This shot highlights the close-up photographer's dilemma, you want to get the whole flower in focus but you want the background to be as blurred as possible. For those working with tripods and still subjects I think I have a solution. I'm working on a tutorial which will be ready soon, I'll post back here when it's done.

Well, my young Socrates...when you can take the pebble from my hand...then you may leave the temple. What we have here is an epistemological enigma wrapped around a conundrum Smile In order to get a good DOF on the flower...one must compromise with regard to obtaining that popular, desired blurred background bokeh.

Actually my technique won't work with head on shots, but it will work with oblique angles.

For a moment there I thought you were going to defy the laws of vision science/physics. As forground DOF increases...backgound objects behind 'must' also become clearer/sharper...because the human eye/brain cannot distinguish a single specific 'part' within the visual plane...and then have that behave seperately from the whole. This would require two conflicting laws operating simultaneously.

If your monitor is calibrated properly you should see sixteen distinct tones from white to black.
