Description: So... can I trick anyone into believing that this is a cup of Folgers? No? I didn't think so. :) I loved the idea of a warm coffee look though.. so I went with that and was naturally reminded of the Folgers slogan. Tried out some drip-drop photos today. I this one turned out decently. However, I absolutely hate the fact that you can clearly see it's a window behind the drop. At least I think I hate it. Thoughts, anyone?

Description: And where am I while half the family is slaving away over new garden plants? Why behind the camera and cooking pizza of course! See? I'm not completely useless! This is the garden. Well most of it. Mom lays out the plan on a grid and we help her out with planting. It's a rather large garden for living in town! I think....yes, it's something like 80' x 20'. Pretty big! But it takes a lot to feed a family with four guys and three girls. We need the extra veggies. =)

Lens Testing

Description: I was lucky....a friend offered to let me borrow his 70-300 Tamron lens for the week. I won't need it for the full week, but I'm going to use it somewhat over the weekend. Here it is on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Tamron-70-300mm-4-0-5-6-Digital-Cameras/dp/B003YH9DZ4 Pricey, right? A little bit out of my range for a while yet... maybe something to work for over the summer... Anyhow... to the photo. This was (of course) taken with the lens.... I know the rose should be more in focus, and I may try that again when the rain stops. This was outdoors, but I like the soft light that almost seems to be directly overhead...

Description: Turned off all lights but the large window... and I was the only one around - so :P I think the focus is a bit off....was using manual focus - but I should have been more careful! And....what do your guys think of the Tamron 70-300mm lens? This one: http://www.amazon.com/Tamron-70-300mm-4-0-5-6-Digital-Cameras/dp/B003YH9DZ4 Don't worry, I'm not that rich yet! I don't plan to get another lens for quite a while, but I'm looking at option. That will take a lot of saving, and a few discounts and coupons to boot! lol! But it was recommended to me by a local photographer and I'm going to try his out. Just wanted some opinions!

Need Lens Help

Description: This picture's nothing special- more of a discussion photo...I have a problem....so I decided to stop searching google and racking my brain and yes...ask some of you gurus who would know. It hasn't taken long for me to figure out that the 18-55mm lens is a great little lens, but I need something longer for zooming in more. (duh) Okay, so I've seen a few options. I have a job, yes, but it's nothing huge! And I can't spend all my money on camera supplies (much as I'd love to). There's insurance (student driver here!!!!) fees, and other such things. So I need an all purpose general type lens. I like both the 75-300 and the 55-250mm lens. I like the fact that they're both relatively inexpensive, yet have some nice reviews and specs. I want to shoot landscapes, then get a bird 15-20 feet away, then turn and get Jacob running behind me. You guys know me by now, I'm not a specialist in anything in particular. I try everything - literally. I need time to develop in different genres of photography. I'm not a flower expert like Kev here...or anything like that. I just need a decent lens for learning and having fun with photography. I think the 55-250 is a nice one - 75mm is zoomed in quite a bit for the wide open end - and I don't shoot a lot of wildlife. So what are your opinions? Have any of you used the 55-250 lens? Know anything about it?

Teaching Them What He Knows

Description: Took this a couple weeks ago and forgot to upload it. The TN State Naturalist shows the boys a few thing along a trail hike. It was cool! I ordered my DSLR last night - Canon 550D/T2i with the kit lens. Can't wait for it to arrive... And now I've got a question for you DSLR users. The 18/55mm lens has an aperture range of 3.5-5.6. However, there's a setting in camera that allows you to set the aperture. How do the two mix? I mean zooming in changes the aperture on the lens, or so I've heard. But what if you've got the aperture set in camera already? This may be something simple, that I'll figure out as soon as I start using the camera...or not. I'm just kind of puzzled as to how it works.

This Is My Retreat

Description: To be honest, the landscapes around here are lovely, but they're not the breathtaking scenery that one might think.... or want. I personally love railroads for a landscape, as I think that they are way too underrated in photography. So I was up at 6:20 this morning and at the railroad with Dad by 7:00. It was cold too!!! LOL! 39 degrees to be exact. The sun had just come up, but there wasn't a cloud in the sky. It was just kind of blueish-gray. So I did the best I could. I still like the result though. I think it's got atmosphere...I hope :) And a self portrait as well. As a huge side point, this (with another recent photo of mine) has inspired me to start a project. "Heartland of America." The way I see it, America has a rich past and the heartland embodies a lot of that very essence. Without the farmers, tractors, silos, barns, and southern cooking, America wouldn't be the same. And I live smack-dab in the middle of it all. What better theme to photograph?
