Oooh, coming down to eye level with doggy!! Nice.

But if the picture was sharper it would be much better. I find it a bit too soft now. The lighting also too harsh as I cant see the eyes of the dog.

I'm afraid there is just too much contrast here. If you do decide to change your camera, and I would recommend the 450d then you can discover the delights of RAW format which will make shots like this a distant memory.

Thanks for your recommendtion and comments. YES!! my first choice. I know there is something wrong with my pictures, and it is so frustrating. Brilliant, thanks Goeff.

PLus also - you've taken the shot in a difficult sun-light situation. IF you'd made sure the direct sun wasn't shining across the dog like that - it would have been easier to capture a more balanced photo.

As Geoff says, if you shoot in RAW, you can then adjust the shaddow/D-lighting, etc so much more and make resutls like this a thing of the past.

Modern day digital realm has now put the 'processing lab' directly in the hands of the photographer - allowing us to completely control the outcome. However, the aim is to get the shot as best as we can - in camera first - of course.
