I hope you dont mind but this is going to be my first critique on another members pic, i love beach photography and when you get it right the pics can be really stunning. I think it looks over exposed due to the position you have taken the pic from and the low winter sun and probably the time of day aswell, if you have photoshop you can darken down the sky slightly this will darken the blue and give the clouds a light puffier look also you might like to crop the bottom to lose some of the beach. The ideal time for beach pics is sunrise or dusk as you can get some great stuff,so i hoped this has helped and that i haven't been to critical, good luck

I think the proportions are about right, I agree the sky could be a little darker. What it really needs is a bit of 'foreground interest'. Something, a rock or whatever, in the foreground to give the picture depth and a focal point. The cloud patterns in the sand are nice but they are not quite enough to make a really interesting picture.

Thanks guys. Truth be told my tutor treated me to a day out solely for photography but chose the windiest day ever as well as a very windy destination. The wind was ice cold which stung my eyes and caused them to stream constantly, until I looked like a panda bear with big black smudges from mascara! I honestly couldn't see through the view finder exactly what I was taking - it was more like point and shoot. However, I shall endeavour something like this on a calmer day and certainly take your advice/suggestions into consideration. Thanks so much for taking the time to advise - most appreciated.
