Simon - with any shot like this...that involves plant-life, greenery or whatever. I would shoot on a bright-cloudy day...and not in direct sunlight which tends to make the saturation and overall frame luminosity rather unbalanced.


Plus, as you are relatively close up and this is a largish fungi/object...a much deeper DOF (ie: f/11 and up) is required to show more detail.

Again, Kev - thanks for the tips - I have skimmed the tutorial and now will go back to read it in depth - very useful and clear enough for the newbie to understand :-)

If your monitor is calibrated properly you should see sixteen distinct tones from white to black.
