Hi Simon,
As you can see...this pic is extremely "noisy"....one reason is that the file size you have uploaded is much bigger than the recommended 1500 x 1500 pix size.

Secondly, I'd check your camera ISO setting...coz it may be too high as a sunset pic like this should never be this grainy.

Shooting in NEF (raw) files and using NX2 (which I use) should give you stella results.

You don't need to use the spot metering on this...matrix would be a better choice for a general landscape shot.

I can see I have a steep learning curve :-)

Thanks for the suggestions, Kev. I will try to remember all this for the next ones!

Nah - It's not rocket-science...a decent understanding of the basics will improve a shot like this a great deal. With sunset (golden hour) type pics you need to use a tripod. The light is diminishing fast and therefore longer shutter times are required which cannot be hand held. Also, you need this to be able to use a low ISO setting (ie: 100, 200) to avoid grainyness.

You can re-upload the picture after resizing it to a smaller 1200 pix - don't delete this post coz my comments will also be gone...simply browse to the new file and re-upload over the old image.
