Personally, I think "landscapes" are the biggest challenge. They are for me. Take this shot - there's nothing particularly wrong with it...but the overall result is flat and almost sterile....even tho there are 3-4 different ingredients.


I think this shot would make a great backdrop to an interesting foreground 'something'...which would thus add that extra depth. It needs a diagonal line or two someplace...everything is horizontal.

If your monitor is calibrated properly you should see sixteen distinct tones from white to black.
