need a little help...as you can see the focus is good but the water makes it look out of focus...what did I do wrong???

For a still-life shot like this...you really need to use a tripod...which will allow you to capture a greater depth of field (over the entire berry range)....and, also you then won't need to use the onboard flash...which will probably result in a better overall exposure. On a shot like this...I would probably want to use about an f/13 stop, or so....which can't be done hand-held. I don't know how close you actually are to the fruit...but, maybe...you are pushing the "minimum" focal/sharpness distance to the max here. Perhaps you need to back-up a bit. I get that feeling - but I could be wrong of course.

The closer you get to your subject the less depth of field you get. This one is quite sharp in the centre but the left strawberry is a little soft. I reckon you could sharpen this one up in Photoshop because it's not far out.


I can't really see what you mean about the water maikng it look unsharp in this shot, but I have had similar troubles when taking pictures of swimmers. I know it is in focus and sharp but the water one their faces smooths out the features and makes the picture look blurred.


For what it's worth, I still think you have overdone the darkening of the edges. Interesting shot though.

Thank you so much for the help.. your right ... the darkening was trying to make up for bad shot...I think I was to close to the subject on that one and I wanted it to work and I was frustrated...still life is something I am working on, I am used to working with natural light and sometimes I find it diffcult to work indoors...I really wanted thoses strawberrys to look mouthwatering (because they were).

If your monitor is calibrated properly you should see sixteen distinct tones from white to black.
