honez Registered: August 2008 Posts: 705	On a recent trip to Sydney I snuck out at lunchtime for a couple of touristy grab shots. The light was awful as it was completely the wrong time of day, the light was far too bright and flat. The best I could get was this shot across the harbour which I've tried to rescue as best I could with HDR. This was a a three shot handheld grab in very windy condtions, so everything was conspiring against me. I think it turned out okay though given the circumstances.

I think the rest of the shot is great but the sun looks awful. Unfortunately my eye is drawn to it all the time. I can see why you don't want to crop it out, I wondered whether you could clone it out. The sparkling water could easily have been lit in the same way by a sun slightly out of shot.

The pic overall has a nice, bright and alive vibe to it...however as the Gaffer says...that SUN is bloody awful...it looks like some guy is holding a huge reflector dish up in the sky and pointing it straight at YOU Smile

The SHB perspective is kinda stretched a bit too much for my taste too.

Yeah, I know... The sun was a pain in the proverbial. I couldn't get any angles on the bridge or Opera House without it. That's why I included it. In for a penny, in for a pound. This really ended up being an exercise in HDR trying to get whatever detail I could with the sun still in the frame.
It was in such an awkward position I couldn't crop it out and/or correct the perspective on the bridge like I wanted. I can't even crop the damn thing out without the sky looking really, really odd.
In the end this was the best of a bad bunch, and I ended up admitting defeat and having to include it as one of the compositional elements in the frame. even though, it still kind of looks like four full corners with nothing interesting in the middle.
Like I said, I really was on a very limited timeframe, so I didn't have time to wait it out, or even shift position to get better angles. It really left me feeling quite despondent, but work called and I had to get the nose back to the grindstone.
Maybe next time...

If your monitor is calibrated properly you should see sixteen distinct tones from white to black.
