Hi Wolfie,
This is not a bad attempt...it's always a bit tricky to capture a fast action shot at such a close ratio. Pity you didn't quite get him full in the frame tho.
I think 1/1500 would have worked better than 1/500 tho...ie: to freeze the shot/water, etc.

Thanks Kev. Should I have used manual for that and what settings should i have gone for. This was my firsr attempt at action sports.

Well, on an action shot like this...you obviously need as fast a shutter speed as possible. It's not a bright sunny day, so light will be a little low. So, you'd probably have to shoot wide open at f/2.8 and see what the SS is. Like I said, I'd guess at least 1/1500s would be needed to freeze the shot & water.


Obviously, you don't want to raise the ISO too much coz that will increase the noise, so you'd have to fire off a few test shots to get the balance between ISO/SS/Aperture optimal.

If your monitor is calibrated properly you should see sixteen distinct tones from white to black.
