Congrats on the upcoming shoot! I know how the time with children can drive one to the verge of insanity at times.
Those fast 50mm lenses have an amazing depth of field. At times, they can be a little tricky.
I love the pose! Such a priceless look into the face of mischief.

Thank you! Mischief is her middle name I love my 50mm but it took a LOT of practice to nail the focus and use such a shallow DOF.

sorry but I think it's just a blurry image, even a nifty fifty would have some of it in focus and sharp.

What's your point, DADO? Other than to be rude?

Sorry kbirdd, I don't want to be rude, but to some extent I must agree with DRD. It is a great pose, her cheeky personality comes through, but it is a little blurred - perhaps that was your intention. I certainly couldn't do better, but we load-up our photos and expect comments so we must accept it if someone does not 100 % like what we show.

You can offer criticism and be diplomatic about it as well, as you did, BlueCrane. My issue was not with his critique, but with the delivery.

If I got a critique I say it not try and lighten what I have said to make people feel good, And as for DADO as I can remember he only ever gave you praise for your efforts, DRD

Okay, DRD, whatever floats your boat. I don't say things nicely to make people feel good, I do it to be polite, which makes ME feel good. Sorry I lashed out. Have a good day.

I like the cheeky pose...I just wish you hadn't cropped the top off her head...or perhaps, you should have gone in even closer...to capture that 'in your face' vibe. The piggy-nose and mouth is sharp here...however, maybe it would have looked better if the eyes were the focal point - I don't know till I see it.
"I don't say nice things to people to make them feel good, I do it to be polite, which makes ME feel good"
Don't worry, we humans are all guilty of that one. Being the most EGO-centric creatures on the planet...everything we do is done to sustain our own self-worth and strengthen our psychological position. Even when we do "nice" things for others...ultilmately, it is done for our own inner self-gratification, not theirs. It's all part of our primitive, evolutionary "survival" mechanism - that we just cannot escape

To all of you! I can talk as good as the next guy but my problem is putting it on paper that is where I get stuck, so often I may offend with comments though without intention, Sorry in advance.

Kev, as usual this was a super candid, in the moment shot. I probably did focus on her nose, when I usually focus on her eyes, because she was crinkling it all up at me and it was funny. I honestly didn't put that much thought into it I mean, I did in that I stood on the stump, and made note of the background, and obviously set the settings manually, and then she gave me this. Cuz that's how she is....I forced this one, I'll admit it. I wanted to share SOMETHING, and I haven't taken any photos lately that I CAN share and I went back and edited this one. As to your commentary on human beings, touche! None of that is un-true.
DRD-I must always remember that text does not come across as talking. Often one reads into something written, especially on forums/chat, with a different tone than was intended.

I respect the kev's wise words and considering the words of the author of this photo I think that we participants of this site have to decide whether we want to feel good receiving nice sentences for our pictures or to improve our skills and knowlidge receiving real critique. Folowing the behavior of the author of this photo the comments to the pictures in this site would be superlatives or... nothing. But I think that more of us do not want to receive nothing when our photos are not good because we want to know why.
Unfortunately in this case DRD is absolutely right - the photo is blurry. By the way, the portraits are very difficult photos which need a lot of knowlidge and practice.
It's a good idea before uploading the prepared photo to review the similar photos in the site together with their comments and compare the prepared photo with them.
kbirdd, I wrote all this with good feelings and I am sure that you will be more precise with the next photo in order not to receive nothing as critique

I think kdlaz that, not having English as your first language, you are missing some of the subtleties of the discussion. Kbird was not really complaining about being told that her picture was blurred, she was complaining about what she felt was a rather blunt way of being told. I think the whole thing was a bit of a misunderstanding, each has apologised to the other, so I think we should move on from this now and all try to be a little more sensitive in the future. We should not withold our criticsm but we should try to put it in a constructive way so people can learn by it, rather than being insulted or upset by it.
