Three comments.
1) You didn't wait for a nice, bright but cloudy day...hence the over blown regions caused by the direct sunlight. 2) You shot f/25...which offers plenty of depth on this large Rhododendron bud...however, you haven't applied enough USM to reboot the line/edge definition...back to say, an f/11 level...or you didn't use a tripod and thus the image is kinda soft. 3) You cropped this one too tight with nothing at the bottom of the frame to balance the image.

Kev what is USM ??? . Yes maybe over did it at F25 .Was on a tripod but wind was blowning it about .Only had about 2 out of 8 that were not blurred by movement.

USM = Unsharp Mask.

If your monitor is calibrated properly you should see sixteen distinct tones from white to black.
