Nice DOF on this. I was hoping to see a larger image, but it looks like this was created by cropping down a much larger photo. So having said that, you got some nice detail. The only criticism for me is that the color seems a bit off, simply because the bee almost looks gray.

Hi Clem, thanks for your comments! Indeed I've cropped the image from a larger one. Haven't got a macro lense yet as I'm new to photography ;-). Three days after taking this picture I've learned about white balance, I suppose on this day it could have been a bit off. Could that have caused the bee to be grey?

Hard for me to say... I'm still relatively new to this myself! If you are using auto white balance it tries to average the colors in the image, so it really depends on the colors in the image before you cropped it. If you have the RAW file from the camera, you can set the white balance yourself afterwards in post production. (I like RAW files for that reason... they just give you more options after you press the shutter release.)

Hi clem, good idea. I'll give it a go and try to make the bee less grey. I shoot the images in Raw and Jpeg, so I can adjust the WB. If that doesn't help I'll take it that the bee is actualy grey :-)
