Leopard resting on tree

anjanmitra Registered: April 2012 Posts: 23	I took this photo of the leopard in Masai Mara, Kenya. The leopard seemed to be resting after a satisfactory meal on the branch of a tree. Compared to other animals leopard is very shy and is difficult to see in the jungle.

Let me first say that I envy you being able to get this close to a wild leopard and I realise that these shots don't present themselves that often, probably once in a lifetime for most people.

The shot is actually very nice, but you have asked for comments so I have three. The first is the twig across his face is probably the worst thing but you couldn't do anything about that, I would definitely have still taken the shot anyway. I don't think cloning the twig out is really possible because it goes right across the eye.

Secondly you really needed to get the feet in the picture, you have some space a the top so,even if you couldn't zoom out, you could have moved the camera down a bit.

Lastly the whole picture is a bit soft, it needs to be sharper. I notice that you shot the picture at 1/320th of a second at a focal length of 300mm, which should be about right even hand held, so I can only guess that you shot it from a moving vehicle or a very uncomfortable position. So really have to hold the camera still at this sort of magnification.

Thanks Geofflaw for your comments. I had noticed the two draw backs you had mentioned. I could not do much about the twig but should have taken care about the leg. The lighting was also difficult . You are right, I was on a vehicle and you are not allowed to get out vehicle.
