The rocks are getting sharper with each attempt. The choice of black and white is interesting, it saves you worrying about whether you've got the colour right. Wink When you choose black and white though, you have to pay a lot more attention to the contrast. This is pretty good but I think that it is a little on the flat side.

When you convert a picture to black and white, assuming you are using Photoshop, don't just change the mode from RGB to grayscale. Use the channel mixer on the image adjustment menu. This window gives you a set of sliders that allow you to adjust the amount of each colour channel you want in the mix. You'll find, with most pictures, that there is more detail in the blue layer than the other two, so you can bring out the detail by having more of the blue layer and less of the others. With the right amount of tweaking you should be able to give the picture real sparkle and make those rocks look wet.

I still think some of these pics would be better as uprights.

Mark, you're a dark horse! This is a fab picture! I'm still trying to get that slurry look of water - what was your speed on it? I need to visit Dairsie and see if I can capture the water like this. Brilliant!

If your monitor is calibrated properly you should see sixteen distinct tones from white to black.
