When I looked at the thumbnail I didn't think I was going to like this but it's great. Just the right amount of information and not too much. The colours and texture of the hands are superb.

Do you think colour's OK? Same day same guy but maybe I got in closer, I guess that would affect light/highlights. I like it too and he was a superb blues player.

Yes I think the colour's just fine. Comparing this shot to the head shot, the reason why this one is not overexposed is because of that big white patch in the middle. Most meter systems default to 'centre weighted average' so the white blob and the very dark surround cancel each other out and produce, in this case, a correct exposure.

Okay........ it's not simple, this photography malarkey,is it? But, very worthwhile and I'm enjoying it! Thanks for the advice and tips, I'm trying to take it all in! Still very much a "fresher" in all of this.

If your monitor is calibrated properly you should see sixteen distinct tones from white to black.
