:) Hi! I am new to this site and also new to selling event photography on my website. www.heatherstokesphotography.com

I read through your information about photographing at events and handing out cards with the link available ahead of time. Love your idea. My question is do you password protect the gallery? How do you ensure that only people from the event are buying the pics, since it is illegal for anyone else to buy those photos correct without a release? I just need clarification so I dont upset anyone or cross any lines. Thanks so much!

;) I am happy to be a part of this site here now as well.

I think you missed a bit somewhere. I don't suggest you sell event prints through our gallery. If you want to do that, sign up with PhotoStockPlus.com. They have a complete system of pricing and ordering and you can password protect your galleries. Our gallery is merely for people to post their pictures for others to comment on.

As you say, you can't sell pictures for publication that contain recognisable people without a release. But the good news is that you, as photographer, would not be breaking the law, the publishers of the photos would be the ones in trouble.

Sorry, I guess I wasnt exactly clear on my explanation. I want to sell event photography on my website to the people that I photographed at the event for example a certain band or dance group. However I must set it up with a password so only they can access it and purchase those photos, correct. Without a password to that gallery anyone could purchase those photos. The only sad thing is then not everyone gets to see the great pics. But if thats how it must be then I do it. :D

Thanks for taking the time to respond I appreciate it greatly!

Yes, I see what you mean now. The people in the photos could, if they want to, object to you selling, or indeed publishing on your website, pictures of them without a release. So you can only legally offer them for sale to the artists. I thought you might get away with selling your pictures if they were not for publication, but it appears I am wrong.
