Hi, im kisi and just joined up today I live in Melbourne, Australia.
I love taking photographs and im always commented on how good the photos are. So I thought it was time to get more serious about my photography (and stop using my auto digital camera -fuji finepix s5500) I have a 35mm film minolta 404si, with 35-80 lens and a 75-300 lens, and a AFM flash, and a tr-ipod. I used to use the minolta all the time as the pictures it produce where of excellent quality , but then i got lazy and started using the digital for the convienence.
The thing is I have never used the minolta in manual mode (did i mention i was lazy) so now is my time to start learning. I have to start from scratch
So I am here to learn as much as I can. My favourite subject is people, follow by landscape.
I do plan on buying a digital SLR as soon as I can save enough money. I was hoping to get a digital that would be compatable with my minolta lens (A-type bayonet mount), from what i have heard sony bought out minolta so my lenses would fit the sony A200 and up cameras.....the thing is i have been looking at the sony cameras and to me they look like toys .
anyway this was just meant to be short and to introduce myself.
now i will start searching the forum and learn from you all

Welcome to the site. Some of our members get good results from Sony Cameras, so they're not complete toys, but I must admit I'd rather have a Canon or a Nikon.

G'day Kisi,
Yes, Nikon and Canon are definitely the leaders in the DSLR market - however, as Geoff says...Sony, Pentax, etc are now offering decent consumer level cameras that now have a lot more MPix and features similar to the higher end models.
And don't forget, todays 'consumer' grade cameras...have better technology/functions...than the top 'pro' level gear had just 7-8 years ago. So, it's all relative.

thanks for your replies guys......i really dont have a lot of money to spend so i must spend wisely...i already have the minolta lenses so it makes sense to buy a camera that they will fit.
I was even looking at the cameras on ebay ...but... im too scared to do it....who knows what the inside of the camera will be like eg. dust, and if the camera has ever been dropped....im just too scared to do it.
I will just have to keep saving and in the meantime learn how to use my minolta properly.
