I've been saving for this camera for a while, but I just got a job last week. It's an online job in which I can work as many hours as I like. Because of this, it shouldn't be too long before I can get a DSLR.

I'm planning to buy the Canon T2i, as I've talked to several people and it has outstanding reviews as well as statistics. I'm just wondering if there's any hidden secrets I should know? lol! It will be my first DSLR and I'm excited about it.

Anyhow, I just thought I'd ask. Also, I'll be saving for a separate lens. I thought of the EF-75-300 lens for a nice zoom lens. Any suggestions?

Beth

Great choice Beth. You won't regret either of those decisions. I have a 400d, not sure what the American equivalent is, but it's basically an older version of the same camera, and it's a good little camera. I also have the ef 75-300mm lens which has produced some lovely results.

I was lucky enough to be able to upgrade to a Canon 7d and some pro quality lenses, which are definitely superior, but cost a lot of money. However, when I don't want to carry too much weight or value, such as on a recent trip to China, I am still quite happy to use the old 400d.

Thanks, Geoff. I'm been looking around, and it does seem to be just about the best for the price. :)

Also, I'm sort of building a wish list for the future (camera wise) Are there any other must-have type lenses that you recommend?

I know your obviously pretty set on the t2i but I have to throw the K-r in there for consideration (I love it and researched it a bit before I bought it) Its not so great for movies but I think its better for photo's (cannon owners will hate me). Its cheaper too. At least take a look and consider:

Thanks, Sam. I'll take a look! However, I've always loved Canon, so that will probably be my choice. I'll definitely look at the Pentax though.

I think the main advantage of buying Canon or, dare I say Nikon, is that you will always have the widest choice of lenses and other accessories to choose from. Once you have chosen a brand and bought a few bits and pieces, it's very hard to change as nothing will fit and you have to buy everything new. Whereas when you want to upgrade your Canon to the next new model, all your lenses and flashgun etc. will fit. So choosing a brand should be considered a choice for life. I could never change from Canon now, it would cost me thousands, so thank goodness I don't want to.

As to buying lenses, the best lens I have and the most used by far, is the Canon ef 24-70mm f2.8. It's expensive, although not so expensive for you Americans as for us Europeans. Somebody bought it for me in New York for the equivalent of 850 euros, they are nearly twice the price in Europe.

It's a lot of money but it will last me a lifetime (as long as I don't drop it too often). If I ever upgrade to a 5D or similar, it will still work as it has the coverage for full frame. The quality is amazing and having f2.8 all the way through the zoom range is great. Put it on the wish list.

Completely understand, I just like to through it in there as I think its actually quite a good bargain.

The cannon does have a wider range of lenses, but the pentax will take any lens from pentax (even back to the 70s), so you can pick up an old lens much cheaper and still get quality but It deffo doesnt have the range.

The difference in price can be massive, I dont know what its like in the states but you could potentially buy a decent tripod and the kr for the price of the t2i here.

But yeah, my step bro and 2 of my good friends have the t2i and its a good camera, I guess everyone builds their loyalty to the brand they have.

Bought the T2i at a nice price from www.42photo.com Friday night.
Looks like I made it in time, as this morning, their price was up $10, and they were out of stock. lol!

Thanks for all the help, everyone. I appreciate it.
