I thought I already posted this, but I think it didn't go through. If it did, I apologize for the double post.

I was taking some of my first night pictures of the downtown area of a small town (the town I live in) and all the street lights have these blue halos. I used a tripod and along exposure. I was wondering if anyone knew what caused these halos and how to fix them? The street lamps themselves are pretty useless, as they throw more light up towards the heavens than down towards the street (thank you for ruining my telescope viewing), but I doubt that has anything to do with it.

I'm attaching one of my photos so you know what I'm talking about. Thanks for any help!

Oh, it may have been the filter, thanks. I'll try it again. I don't remember if I had it on or not.

...and I'll certainly keep a Canon in mind on my next purchase...you know in twenty or so years when I've graduated and I have tenure at a decent university and I can afford to frivolously throw cameras away. :)
