Candid Child Portrait

Kids are best photographed when they are totally absorbed in something else. This little girl was watching a puppet show. Although the kids knew I was taking pictures, the puppet show was more exciting and, after a few minutes, they forgot all about me.

The longer you spend taking pictures the more you blend into the background and people forget you are there. If you have to use flash of course it is a little more obvious that you are taking pictures but you'd be surprised how quickly even that becomes just part of the surrounding 'white noise'.

I used a 75-300mm zoom lens for this shot which allowed me to get in really close from the other side of the room. Although I had to use the dreaded 'flash on camera', the angle of the head gave me an interesting shot and the shadows and highlights are not too bad.
